10 Things I Hate About You

Before I introduced to the tools being used in the marketing world, I had seen the movie 10 Things About You several times in the past. Now, we've learned more about what brands do to keep us in constant contact with them so we don't forget about them. As I was watching 10 Things About You recently, I noticed the use of Madison and Vine throughout the whole movie.

Kat and her teammates were wearing Adidas uniforms. Shortly after this scene, Joey was wearing Adidas sweatpants. 








In the party scene, there is a pyramid of beers. You can see the brands Heineken, Bud Light, Budweiser, and Modelo. Joey and Bianca were drinking Bud Light and Budweiser. 








Bianca and Chastity were having a conversation about the difference between liking and loving. They used Skechers and Prada as examples. 















In this scene, a GLH hair spray ad came on on TV while Kat's dad was watching TV, that is why the advertisement can be seen in the subtitles. 







In this scene, Bianca's dad was wearing a Reebok shirt and was using Life Fitness equipment to exercise.








These are all examples of Madison and Vine that are seen in 10 Things I Hate About You.

Holy Wars

The song "Holy Wars... The Punishment is Due"   by Megadeth deals with controversial topics within  our society. It talks about war and people dying for the cause of religion, it says: "Brother will kill brother, spilling blood across the land, killing for religion". It doesn't talk about a specific group of people or a specific event, but it talks about our society in general. It hints towards the division of Ireland and the Holy Wars ISIS, Al Qaeda have caused. It talks about how religion can disturb unity and how it has been the cause of many conflicts in the past: "A country that's divided surely will not stand my past erased, no more disgrace". When he talks about a country that is divided, he is talking about Ireland. Northern Ireland separated from Ireland because of conflicts between Catholics and Protestants. A mook is a male that is arrested in adolescence, meaning that he never got over being over immature. A mook is loud and obnoxious. You can tell Tom Green is a mook just by the title of his videos. He has titles such as: "Bingo Was His Name-o" and "S.C.U.B.A Hood". The title catches our attention which will make us want to watch the video which is what the producers of the video or the show want us to do. In his videos, he does all kinds on things no one ever dares to do- like going swimming in poop. Tom even made a song called The Bum Song, which consists of him rubbing his butt on people and several objects. However, Tom Green may not actually act like this in his private life. Mooks are characters produced by the market. According to market researchers, mooks are the opposite of what male teenagers are like.
